Could not connect to host

May 13, 2011 at 12:50 PM

hy all.

I always get the error "Could not connect to host".

But only on our webserver,on my local environment (xampp 1.7.3) it works perfectly...

If i change credentials to a wrong user or  password the error message is following:

Failed to connect to Reporting Service
Make sure that the url ( and credentials are correct!

So the server is reachable, credentials are correct and login works....  any idea where the problem could be?

Webserver: running PHP versions 5.2.10-2ubuntu6.7.

; Credentials used to access the server
UID = "Domain\Administrator"
PASWD = "xxxxxxxxx"

thx in advance, nibblas

Hi !

Modify the rsreportserver.config configuration file located under the Report Server installation folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server \MSRS10.SQLEXPRESS\Reporting Services\ReportServer in most common scenarios). You might need to open the text editor with Administrator privileges.

Find the <Authentication> element located under the <Configuration> element and add the basic authentication type (shown in bold) under the <AuthenticationTypes> element.

Note: If other AuthenticationTypes entries are present, do not delete them. Just add the <RSWindowsBasic/> element at the end.

hy draven,

thx for reply, but the Basic Authenticatino was already there....

From my localhost environment it works, only from our webserver not....

webserver is in a dmz, but port 80 is open so this should not be the problem....

any other ideas?

thx nibblas

just a simple idea,

Maybe you Webserver can't access to your RS server.

have you try on your Webserver to "ping"  your RS server ? or to connect on the port 80 (telnet ip_rs_serveur 80)

connect via telnet was also no problem....

> telnet -a 80
Connected to
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.

Hmm sorry i haven't another ideas...

Maybe your webserver can't get credentials UID on your AD server...

Why not try with a local admin user create on your RS Server
